At 16, Heidi Murphy won a Rotary Club Writer of the Year award as a playwright and three years later directed her first full length performance at the SPACE, in Glasgow. She is now an advocate for youth engagement in the arts, acting as a workshop facilitator for all ages and abilities, and working on Beatfreeks’ Youth Steering Committee, which works to bring arts to young people in the West Midlands.
As well as continuing to work in theatre as the Artistic Director of Gaberlunzie Theatre Company, Heidi is also a spoken word artist and has produced work for institutions around the UK, from the Burns’ Birthplace Museum in Scotland to London’s Roundhouse. She has also performed in venues as diverse as rural train station toilets to Europe’s biggest poetry festival. Her first poetry pamphlet, ‘Songs About Gin’ is available on Amazon.
‘‘Heidi Murphy is the queen of juxtaposition – sealing together innovative and enlightening imagery with a delicate yet impactful performance style’ – Deborah ‘Debris’ Stevenson
